Fun Fact
When I was the vice president and academic dean of a liberal arts college, I hosted a reception for three Nobel Prize winners: Elie Wiesel (writer and Holocaust survivor), Mairead Maguire (Northern Ireland peace activist), and Oscar Arias (Costa Rican activist). When I was a graduate student at Berkeley, I literally brushed shoulders with Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead co-founder) at his favorite local music venue.
