Research Interests
I am an Associate Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health (COPH) with the expertise in molecular epidemiology and environmental exposure, which have built my strong foundation and research interest to understand the impact of environmental exposure in Arkansas. My laboratory uses population-based omics approach to address the factors that are contributing to the cancer health disparities. I was involved in the population studies including the Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Centers (TTURC) study at Georgetown University, the Buckeye Teen Health Study at the Ohio State University, and now am the PI for the Arkansas Rural Community Health (ARCH) cohort. During my role as a co-Investigator for the NIMHD-funded Arkansas Center for Health Disparities at COPH, I witnessed first-hand the health disparities in the Arkansas Delta regions which compelled me to devote my career to identifying the drivers of health disparities in rural and underserved communities. I currently serve as a Project Leader for the P20 COBRE Center for Studies on Host Response to Cancer Therapy at UAMS, which aims to understand early prediction markers for chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity in breast cancer patients. I also serve as PI and co-I for two DoD Prostate Cancer Research Program Health Disparity Research Awards, which address the racial disparity of lethal prostate cancer among African American men. As the PI for the ARCH study cohort of 26,375 women representing every county in Arkansas, I am committed to sustain and enrich the ARCH cohorts so populations from Arkansas can be heard. I am determined to enrich and develop the ARCH infrastructure to facilitate broader sharing of data and resources in order to bring environmental justice to the understudied ARCH cohort.
