Department of Health Behavior and Health Education

Mission

The mission of the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education is to improve individual and population health through research, workforce training, and community-based programs in the health promotion arena. Faculty conduct research and implement health improvement programs affecting diverse population in a variety of clinical and community settings.

Doctoral Program

Our master’s level graduates specializing in health behavior and health education are prepared for entry-level positions in health promotion in a variety of settings — the Arkansas Department of Health, UAMS, hospitals, universities, schools, businesses, non-profit agencies, clinics, and other community settings. Their work may be in program design, implementation, and evaluation; heath promotions writing; health and wellness education in the workplace; one-on-one health coaching, or as a project manager or assistant for a research project. Graduates are encouraged to obtain national certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist.

Our faculty welcomes the opportunity to discuss with prospective and current students the various degree program options and associated career paths.
