Graduate Certificate in Maternal and Child Health

Overview

The overall goal of the Maternal & Child Health Certificate Program is to develop and train public health leaders to address the health needs of women and children. There is an urgent need to prepare more public health workers in maternal and child health to address the disproportionate burden of suffering and disease experienced by many Arkansans, particularly those from underrepresented minority and ethnic groups and those residing in rural, underserved communities. Residents of these communities experience compromised health because of low income, poor education, limited health care, and lack of resources to empower individuals to make significant life changes. All these variables impact the health and well-being of women and children. The program will provide students the support and skills needed to improve maternal and child health outcomes in their communities using evidence-based approaches.

This program is supported by faculty in Department of Health Behavior and Health Education. It is the only MCH training program in Arkansas and can be obtained in one year.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must possess the minimum of a US baccalaureate degree equivalent to be considered for admission. Applicants who anticipate completion of their undergraduate degree soon after the admissions deadline may apply for conditional admission. If granted conditional admission, a final transcript from the student’s baccalaureate institution must be received by the Office of Student Affairs prior to the date of registration of the admitted semester. Courses can be completed as a non-degree seeking student.

For information on how to apply to the program contact the COPH Office of Student and Alumni Affairs at (501) 526-6647.
