About the Master of Health Administration Program

Letter to Prospective Students

The Master of Health Administration Program at UAMS is the only CAHME-accredited program in Arkansas, and we are very proud of the more than forty-year history of educating future healthcare leaders.

Our program will prepare you for a career in health administration by developing your skills and abilities across 18 essential competencies. Our graduates are employed by hospitals, medical clinics, managed care firms, health insurance firms and many other health-related fields. Salaries are in line with other well-paid managerial occupations.

In keeping with our vision of being the program of choice for Arkansas and the region, our 8-week terms and fully online program meet the demand of our working professional students who make up the majority of our student body. These offerings provide additional flexibility for students and enable us to reach people outside of central Arkansas. Our new Medical Laboratory Management (MLM) specialization is another way we show our continued commitment to the changing needs of healthcare.

If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Stephen M. Bowman, PhD, MHA

Details for Enrollment

100% Remote with an Accelerated 8-week Format

Our fully remote format provides flexibility for students who work or don’t live in central Arkansas. The Master of Health Administration requires 51 credit hours that can be completed in as little as 21 months. The accelerated 8-week format keeps a fast and motivating pace. Full-time students would only take 2 courses at a time. Synchronous sessions are offered in the evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays to accommodate the mix of students.

Integrated Experiential Learning

The program offers a mix of traditional and experiential learning in health care organizations. A number of courses are taught by practicing senior-level health care administrators. Students participate in a summer residency or management project mid-way through the program. The summer residency is a full-time, typically paid, 10-week experience.

Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Methods

The MHA Program uses traditional and emerging instructional methods with practice-based learning experiences. Each online class typically meets one evening per week using two-way videoconferencing. Classes emphasize team-based learning, case studies, and practice-based applications to create a deep and rich learning environment. Assignments include real-world problems and opportunities to practice competencies developed throughout the program.
