The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (UAF) is a new partner in the innovative 4+1 Program at the UAMS Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health (COPH). The program enables academically motivated undergraduate students at partnering institutions to work toward a master’s degree in public health (MPH), making it possible to earn a bachelor’s degree and MPH degree in five years.
Three of Arkansas’ historically black colleges and universities — Philander Smith College and Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff — have sent some of their best and brightest to the COPH 4+1 Program. The private, selective Hendrix College in Conway is also a 4+1 partner. In March, UA Fayetteville joined them.
The 4+1 Program is open to qualifying students in the UAF College of Education and Health Professions Department of Community and Public Health who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program. If accepted, students may take up to 18 preapproved credit hours of graduate courses, while still enrolled at the UAF, which will count towards completion of their undergraduate degree. After graduation with a BS, students may go on to complete the remaining requirements for the MPH degree.
